YouTube has updated its Advertiser Friendly Guidelines, which convey what content is eligible for monetization in the app. Many video creators have felt frustrated with these new regulations and policies as it threatens to cut off opportunities for monetization of their content that violates these guidelines.

The changes include stricter rules on adult content, violence, and harmful or dangerous acts.

  • Video thumbnails containing adult material, adult links, and inappropriate language will not qualify for monetization.
  • YouTube will also demonetize acts that show dead bodies, violence towards real people, and those created ‘to intentionally disgust and shock ' within the context of violent acts.
  • Dangerous and harmful acts or stunts that feature minors as victims or participants will not be eligible for ad revenue. These changes are aimed at protecting children from engaging in potentially dangerous acts and ensuring creators do not upload offensive content of any kind.
  • Inappropriate language – YouTube says that all varieties of profanity will now be treated equally and will not be differentiated based on levels of severity – though YouTube does note that it is not treating words like 'hell,' and 'damn' as profanity anymore. This is a bit weird. Content wh, where profanity is used after the first eight seconds,y receive ad revenue. • Drug Related content, discussion, mention, or use in gaming content will be prohibited.
